Preparatory Judi Oyama

Born in Santa Cruz, California, Judi was among the original skaters, very few of whom were female, in the Dogtown days. 45 years later, she continues to shred barriers to gender and age. Sponsored by a number of respectable companies in the field, Oyama, now a 60 year old mother of two, is #1 in the Women Masters World Rankings for Slalom. She is the creative director and founder of Badass Skatemom and Maximum Impact Design, designing graphics for surf, snow and skateboard brands worldwide. She is also one of the founders and leaders of Board Rescue: a non-profit that provides skateboards and safety equipment to organizations that work with at-risk and underprivileged youth. Board Rescue has thus far provided half a million dollars in equipment to over 5,000 children.

In 2018, Judi Oyama was inducted into the Skateboard Hall of Fame. In her own words at the conclusion of her acceptance speech:  

"…It’s been a great 45 years of riding, racing, designing and representing this sport, I plan to keep riding. Just because I’m getting older doesn’t mean I have to stop. Ever. It has been an awesome life full of skateboarding and I’m looking forward to many more sessions with you. We are the first generation of skateboarders skating into our 60s and beyond - how crazy is that? Finally, a big thanks to my amazing husband, Greg, and my wonderful kids, Taylor and Ryan, for letting me go ride, race and carve bowls pretty much every weekend.  Thank you all and remember - stay badass!"
