“Homeland Obscurity”
With the deserts of southern Arizona being home to a rich culture that is the Tohono O’odham, very rarely are their voice and concerns heard through major media platforms. From militarization, to harassment and literally being stuck in the middle of several complex border issues, the Tohono O’odham continue to move forward with a vibrant “himdak” or way of life. Although the landscape is distorted by all outside entities and political agendas, the power of survival of the Original Indigenous peoples of the land is brought forth in this piece, showing the beauty and balance regardless of the current state of affairs.
